Cocoon Developer’s Handbook

Thursday, January 9th, 2003

Well, my copy of the Cocoon Developer’s Handbook finally arrived from Amazon, but the spine was broken! Argh! Now I have to return it and get a new one shipped, which means about two more weeks of waiting. Sigh..

Slew of Cocoon Updates

Wednesday, January 8th, 2003

I’ve been slacking, but here’s a bunch of news from the Cocoon world:

  • XReporter was released over on CocoonDev
  • Bernard Huber added his webmail components to the scratchpad. It looks liky my IMAPGenerator will be quickly obsoleted :)
  • Ugo is working on some huge app that uses FlowScript. I wonder what it is? Perhaps he’s rewriting CocoBlog. I’m a huge slacker, I’ve gotten nowhere needing to use the FS functionality.
  • We still need better documentation.
  • I’m still waiting on my order of the latest Cocoon book to arrive at my doorstep…

That’s it for now. I’m still settling in at my new job. Hopefully I can move us over to Cocoon in the future.

MS TerraServer + Web Services = TerraService

It looks like TerraServer has some public web services available. Looks like it could be useful.

Spam Bot Searches For Vulnerable Formmail Script

Nice try, they even managed to fake the HTTP referrer field. Too bad there’s no formmail on this system :)

Looks like its an automated script of some sort. Everyone Keep your eyes out. If you’re using formmail.[cgi|pl], you might want to make sure it has some pretty good security on it. This shows that even if you check the HTTP referrer, it can easily be faked. Beware!

Bored? Read a Book!

Sunday, January 5th, 2003

Steven and Matthew are discussing books to read when one’s bored. It seems there’s a bunch of us who have some free time and are learning Python.

I’ve got this book as well as this book. I would have probably gone for The Python Cookbook instead of Programming Python, but oh well. Oh yeah, there’s also Dive Into Python.

As far as Cocoon books go, I own the first two that came out, and I have an order pending for the third one.

Oh yeah, and Steven, I updated your link. Matthew, does my blog render fine in your browser?

JavaBlogs: Where’s the RSS?

Friday, January 3rd, 2003

So here I am, just downloaded NetNewsWire, and I’m rediscovering using an aggregator. I trot on over to JavaBlogs, looking for an RSS feed of the rolling list of stories that appears on the left half of the page. I’m surprised to find there isn’t such a thing!

Time to send some suggestions in :)

Mark also wrote about NNW, wondering if it came with crack. No, it doesn’t, but the app is so basic and useful, they might have well given you some with it.

Please Don’t Kill My Bandwidth

Friday, January 3rd, 2003

To the user at corp.palm.com who’s aggregating my index.rdf (You know who you are!): Please set your aggregator to hit the feed no more than once an hour. I’d appreciate it :)
