Weather RSS Feed Update

Tuesday, February 25th, 2003

Well, it seems my “reliable” source for weather data in XML went down the toilet, so I guess I won’t be offering the RSS feeds anytime soon. Thanks to everyone who responded. I still think it’s a good idea, and once I have time, I’m going to follow a few more leads I had regarding free weather data.

It seems that Lenya is being proposed as an Apache Cocoon sub-project.

Lenya is a content management system built around open standards like XML and XSLT. It is currently based on the XML publishing and application framework Cocoon.

Thoughts on Blog Comments & Web Services

Thursday, February 20th, 2003

I’ve been thinking lately… simply put, why is there no way to attach comments to a weblog post? I mean, there are some pretty big uber-aggregators coming out. Wouldn’t it make sense to expose weblog comments in an RSS feed (possibly separate) as well? Perhaps this site isn’t all that visited, but it seems that most of my visitors are using news aggregators.

Imagine if news aggregators were able to view comments attached to a post. And imagine if they were also able to add a post without having to hit a form on the server side.. they’d hit some sort of web service.. XMLRPC, SOAP, etc.

RSS is currently only being used half of the conversation that goes on in blogs. Think about fast the info would flow if people could see that there were new comments attached to a conversation in their news aggregators.

I guess it would sort of end up like site annotation, only the person controlling the web site would be in control of what gets posted. If I had Photoshop I could create a mockup of how something like NetNewsWire would look if this functionality were included.

Weather RSS Feeds?

Thursday, February 20th, 2003

I’ve stumbled into a *lot* of weather data in XML which is constantly updated. Would anyone be interested in an RSS feed (updated every hour or so) of current weather conditions and a 5-day forecast? I think I could easily swing it with Cocoon.

CityPages still Opining

Wednesday, February 5th, 2003

Busted! The CityPages’ latest offender is Beth Hawkins:

“By entering the political fray, Ciresi is virtually daring the Minnesota press and his opponents to do what few have done to date,” St. Paul Pioneer Press writer D.J. Tice opined in an October 1999 editorial.

CNN == Stupid, Shuttle Not Doing 18*C

Monday, February 3rd, 2003

It seems that CNN initially reported that the Columbia was travelling at over 18 times the speed of light when it broke up over Texas. No wonder!
