Cocoon User Groups
Monday, November 10th, 2003Recently there have been some User Groups forming around Cocoon. There’s already a bunch of people in Switzerland organizing, as well as New York. (Update: and now Wellington, New Zealand!)
If anyone is interested in starting a Cocoon user group for the Minneapolis / St. Paul area, drop a message here, on the Wiki, or on Cocoon-Users.
Google IRC Redux
Wednesday, November 5th, 2003After breaking the Google IRC story, I’ve had a few thoughts.
First, the only channels that the bot appears in are public channels, i.e. ones that do not have their mode set to +s. Since channels which are not +s are listed in the channels list, it only makes sense that the bot is just doing a /list and joining anything it thinks is interesting. Fortunately, most of the interesting channels are secret.
Second, the bot probably got a server list off of netsplit.de.
Third, I wouldn’t don the tinfoil hats just yet. Google indexing irc servers would be interesting, but many channels are private. If a Googlebot did manage to get it’s way into a private channel, it can easily be banned (*!*@*.google.com would do it).
Anyway, that’s it for now… the incoming links have been overwhelming :)
